Myoporum insulare ‘MYIN01′ PBR Intended Trade Name Ground Hug™

  • Low height with rapid horizontal growth and dense, weed-controlling foliage.
  • Exceptional resilience to frost, drought, and coastal conditions.
  • Cost-effective ground cover with minimal maintenance needs

Ground Hug™ Myoporum is a game changer for landscape design, offering low height, rapid horizontal growth, and dense, weed-controlling foliage.

Its natural growth habit significantly reduces landscape maintenance costs by requiring minimal pruning while providing excellent surface erosion control and some of the best line-of-sight vision among low-growing plants.

It thrives in various soil types, including heavier and moderately boggy soils, but should not be used in continually waterlogged soils.

  • Size: 100mm high (200mm over ten years with layering) x 4000mm+ wide.
  • Planting Density: 1 plant per 1-2 m², 3 plants per m² for effective weed control
  • Uses: Ideal for roadside, pathway plantings, wide borders, rain gardens, and covering untidy objects.
  • Species: Myoporum insulare
  • Position: Thrives in full sun; tolerant of frost, drought, coastal conditions, and various soil pH levels.
  • Care: Low maintenance; annual edge prune recommended, avoid pruning in winter and summer; aggressive pruning every 4-5 years if needed to maintain height
  • Where it works: Suitable for most landscapes within 100 km of the coast across Northern NSW, Victoria, SA, WA, and Tasmania; improved frost resistance down to -5°C allows further inland growth.
  • Flowers: Small white flowers followed by edible berries traditionally consumed as bush tucker, though leaves are toxic
